Shiver Hohojiro likes to present themselves as cold-blooded, and it is true that they are rather quick to anger and easy to frustrate in regards to battle and competition. Despite this, they are the most mature member of Deep Cut and remain rather reserved, while Frye and Big Man express themselves much more loudly and openly. They're also a bit of a perfectionist, with them having Big Man start over with Anarchy Rainbow a few different times.
Shiver is a member of their family's clan, known for their shark-taming and well-respected within Splatlands. They couldn't make friends with other inkfish and had issues getting along with others while in school, despite this. This outcasting led to Shiver meeting Frye, who had similar troubles making friends, and eventually the formation of Deep Cut.
The confirmation of Shiver's gender has only been from a Nintendo of America employee; the same Nintendo of America who would purposefully erase all evidence of Marina's queerness in English localizations. When speaking to native Japanese speakers, they say that Shiver's gender still reads as ambiguous to them, and that they await a confirmation of some kind from Nintendo themselves. As such, I refer to Shiver with exclusively they/them pronouns. (And I recommend you do the same!)
Given the previous statement above, it's pretty clear that I interpret Shiver as nonbinary. I see them as an aroace-spec bisexual in a polycule with the rest of their members! I also view them as autistic, which contributed to why they couldn't make many friends as a child. I view Shiver as someone who struggles with anger and regulating it; either repressing it or having it all come out all at once. I also think they're touch-avoidant, which contrasts with Frye and Big Man, who are big hug-givers (although they're obviously understanding).
